 File — Box: 3

Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

The records of the Office of Affirmative Action document the College’s effort to create policies and procedures to ensure equal employment opportunities. The College, acting under federal legislation, established its first Affirmative Action Plan in 1976 “in keeping with its history of just and equal treatment of all persons, regardless of race, creed, sex, or national origin.” (From the Board of Trustees statement, November 18, 1972).

The records of the Office of Affirmative Action consist of annual reports, 1976-95, copies of the Affirmative Action Plan (1976, revised 1977, 1988, 1989, 1993, and 2004), correspondence, summary statements, and further revisions of Affirmative Action Plan, 1976-88. One file contains materials related to the Oberlin Black Affairs Council, 1973. A separate set of files contains documentation related to the work of the Affirmative Action Advisory Committee, 1976-89, 1992.
