Scope and Contents
Subseries 1 consists of original hand-written letters, as well as photocopies for some of the originals. Among the correspondence are letters sent and received by Alford’s grandparents, Gowen (1833-1905) and Martha Chamberlain Wilson (1833-1926), including a set of love letters written to each other before (1861-1862) and after (1862-1898) their marriage in 1862. Also included in this series are the letters of Alford’s great grandparents, Jefferson (1803-1873) and Anne Eliza Burr Chamberlain (1805-1865). Other correspondents include Charles Chamberlain, Frederick Chamberlain, Thomas Jefferson Chamberlain, Susan Gridley Carleton, Levi Gridley, Annie Burr and Luther Keene, Edmund Wilson, and Frederick Wilson among others.
