Ruth Love tribute, 1985-1987, undated

These files represent a small number of the many events in which LaFontant-MANkarious was involved. Among the events represented here is a Carnaval Ball held as a fundraiser by the DuSable Museum in 1986; Jewel LaFontant and banker Clark Burrus were the queen and king of the Carnaval Ball. The 1994 Chicago celebration of UNICEF Day of the African Child, honoring Archbishop Desmond Tutu, is documented by correspondence and other planning material and by news articles following the event. In 1985 Jewel LaFontant and Irv Kupcinet were co-chairs of the planning committee for a Tribute to Ruth Love, former Chicago General Superintendent of Schools. The material on the U.S. Department of Labor’s Women’s Round Table held in Chicago in 1984 includes correspondence as well as a typescript of the proceedings of this event which was chaired by Jewel LaFontant.
