Scope and Contents
This series contains information about law firms in which LaFontant-MANkarious was a partner as well as files relating to some of her legal cases. There is ample material, primarily correspondence and handwritten notes, regarding the firm LaFontant, Wilkins, Jones, & Ware and the agreements reached when she left in 1983 to join Vedder, Price, Kaufman, & Kammholz. There is also general information about Vedder, Price, Kaufman, & Kammholz and about Holleb & Coff, the firm LaFontant-MANkarious joined when she left her post as Ambassador-at-Large and Coordinator of Refugee Affairs in 1993. Client files, dated 1970-93, contain correspondence, notes, legal documents, and supporting materials. Both corporate and individual clients are represented; these files include only a small number of the client’s represented by Jewel LaFontant-MANkarious throughout her career. This series also contains correspondence, writings, and Jewel LaFontant's testimony to the Senate Judiciary Committee relating to the 1987 Supreme Court Nomination of Robert H. Bork.
