The records of OSMA date from 1881 to the present and relate to the activities of Oberlinians in Asia during that period.
Earlier records discuss missionary work of the Oberlin Band: evangelism, teaching, medical work, and the operation of "opium refuges" in the Shanxi province of China. The bulk of this collection deals with the OSMA, which was formed as a living memorial to Oberlin missionaries who died in the Boxer Rebellion of 1900.

The original Sami Ibrahim Haddad Papers comprise one photograph album loosely held by thread, “Vain Hope, or the American Commission, June-August 1919.” Haddad served as the doctor and translator for the King-Crane Commission in the Middle East.
