Scope and Contents These records document the mock political conventions held at Oberlin College from 1860 to 1968. This quadrennial event was an Oberlin tradition that many alumni regarded as a highlight of their student experience. There were twenty-seven mock political conventions held at Oberlin. Twenty-four were Republican, two were Democratic, and one was non-partisan. Scope and Contents Although Gilbert and Sullivan operettas have been produced at Oberlin at least since the 1930s, the Oberlin Gilbert and Sullivan Players, as a group, was formed in 1949. The first production, The Pirates of Penzance, took place in 1950.  The bulk of records cover the period 1949-1990.
