Art, ca. 1980s-2000s, undated

Series 1 houses print photographs by the Oberlin Review (both published and unpublished) ranging from 1975-2000. Some photographs are not dated. Frequently credited photographers include various Oberlin Review photography editors, including Afrodesia McCannon '88, William Hung '92, and Deneb Meketa '96, and Associate Photography Editor George LaPierre '90. Photographs document student and campus life including arts, performances, campus buildings, sporting games, student and faculty portraits, and political activism. Other prints document locations outside of Oberlin in Northeast Ohio and scenes from national protests. Most of the prints are black and white. Only a few are color. Many were received by the College Archives damaged by ink from highlighters, markers, and pens which transferred as a result of storage in humid locations and/or water damage. A 2023 burst pipe in the basement of Oberlin's Tank Hall Co-Op, the storage location of many prints, resulted in the loss of some photographs and damage to others. Damage includes photographs that are stuck together as well as loss to photograph emulsion. Photographic prints are organized based on subject assigned by Review staff where original folders were received by the Archives or assigned by Archives where no data was preserved.
