Scope and Contents

This record group consists of archival and duplicate sets of student publications, microfilmed issues of 15 publications, and other records related to student publications. This includes historical information and charters. It is arranged in four record series.

Abstract

This record group holds the records of various activist and political student organizations at Oberlin College.

Scope and Contents The records of the Oberlin Peace Society relate to the organization’s commitment to the study and pursuance of peace within the international community, 1930-1939. The membership records show that almost half of the student body at Oberlin in 1931 were members of the Peace Society.  From the period 1930 to 1939, the records show that the Society and its members were involved in various activities to promote peace. Scope and Contents The records of the Ladies' Literary Society and Aelioian Literary Society chronicle virtually the entire history of female literary societies at Oberlin College. Scope and Contents Records of the Women's Center date from 1972 to 1987 and document the Center's role as an umbrella organization and clearinghouse for women and women's organizations on the Oberlin College campus. A charter and statement of purpose describe the structure and functions of the Center, while daily activities are recorded at a minimal level in minutes, correspondence, and financial records dating from the late 1970s and early 1980s. This record group includes files from the following organizations: Sigma Xi and the Oberlin Honorary Mathematical Society.

Scope and Contents The records of the Zeta of Ohio Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa document the multiple administrative functions of the chapter, including electing new members, communicating with the United Chapters, and planning for the annual initiation banquets and Visiting Scholars Program. A small amount of material relates to the history of the United Chapters and its triennial meetings. Scope and Contents The materials contained in the LGBTU Collection date from 1973 to 2001. They reflect portions of the LGBTU’s operations. Most of the materials are from the late 1980s and 1990s. A majority of the files consist of printed materials, such as meeting minutes, administrative materials, records related to programming, posters, and publications that were collected by the LGBTU's librarian. Scope and Contents

This collection has been divided into two subgroups: papers and audio recordings. The papers subgroup includes four series. It includes adminstrative information about WOBC and program guides. There is a small group of non-textual materials, including photographs. The audio recordings subgroup consists mostly of reel-to-reel tapes from the 1960s through 1990s.
