Scope and Contents

This collection has been divided into seven subgroups. Records related to First National Bank, Citizens' National Bank, Oberlin Savings Bank, Northern Ohio Bank, People's Banking Company, and Historical Information.

Abstract

This small collection brings together limited files on churches in Oberlin and just outside of it in Lorain County. Few of these materials are church records, but rather collected clippings, booklets, programs, ephemera, and some compiled historical information. Larger holdings for individual churches have their own record groups within Oberlin Community Records: Church/Religious-based Organizations (RG 31/004).

Scope and Contents Records of the First and Second Congregational Churches of Oberlin date from 1834 to 2002. They include minutes of the Oberlin Society, the original governing body of the colony and church. The bulk of the collection consists of minutes, annual reports, correspondence, financial records, sermons of various pastors, and records of several women's voluntary and social organizations. The First Methodist Church records have been arranged into nine series. The collection includes administrative and legal records, membership rolls, women's society and committee records, and historical files.

Scope and Contents The records of the Oberlin Woman’s Club document the organization’s contribution to the Oberlin Community, as well as commitment to both intellectual improvement and service work. Scope and Contents The records of the Finitimi Society document the weekly meetings of the Society , as well as the social aspect of the group. The collection consist of by-laws, 1906, four volumes of minutes (1902-1923), memorial notes on deceased members and a few letters from members (i.e., thank yous from members for flowers and get well notes received from other Society members), 1910-26.
