Lorain County Arts Council Records
Scope and Contents
Nearly all of the records of the Lorain County Arts Council (LCAC) in this collection, spanning 1985-1988, relate to production of the quarterly journal Spectrum, which ceased publication in 1988. The files relating to the proposed LCAC film project for television, “The Bluest Eye: Race in Historical Perspective,” are the exception. A screenplay based on Toni Morrison’s novel The Bluest Eye, written by Pamela Douglas for the project in 1988, is included in these files.
The records are arranged in six series: 1. Correspondence and Notes; 2. Calendars; 3. Program Files; 4. Film Projects; 5. Publications; and 6. Photographs. The bulk of the records comprise the publications series.

Method of Acquisition
The records were received from Ellen Nickenzie Lawson in February 1989, except for the files relating to the proposed LCAC film project “The Bluest Eye: Race in Historical Perspective.” These files were found in the personal papers of J. Milton Yinger, former Professor of Sociology and Anthropology at Oberlin College. Yinger is listed on a National Endowment for the Humanities grant proposal as one of the professional staff and key consultants for the project, and the files contain correspondence between Yinger and LCAC Executive Director Margaret Haney.
