Identifier: RG 37-002

Scope and Contents

Oberlin College’s reel-to-reel tape recordings (179 reels) consist of events on campus, including speaker presentations, symposia, and musical and dramatic performances. Also included are a few radio broadcast recordings having to do with Oberlin College. RG 37/2 for Audio Recordings: Reel-to-reel Tapes was set up for recordings transferred from the Audio Visual Department in 2010 and a small number transferred from the Alumni Office in 1991. Additional recordings were transferred to the Archives from the Audio Visual Department in 2017. These cover a date range of 1958-1991, with some undated. Most of the College’s recordings on reel-to-reel tapes can be found in RG 18, Communications Office Records. Three additional reels were found in a larger accession from the Development Office in 1986.

The collection is arranged into two series: Series 1. Lecture Series Tapes holds recorded lectures in the Mead-Swing, Haskell, and May Lecture Series dating from 1975-1989 and undated (2.0 linear feet). Series 2 holds all non-lecture series tapes dating from 1958 to 1991 and undated (3.8 linear feet).
